FPU, Walmart partner for bicycle Christmas gifts

This time of year usually brings into better focus the realization of those around us who could use an extra dose of Christmas cheer. And there are none more worthy than the children of our community who are a little less fortunate than others. To help bring that much-needed Christmas cheer, Fayetteville Public Utilities and Fayetteville’s Walmart again partnered to purchase and donate 28 bicycles to children in our community.

“Receiving a new bicycle at Christmas – or at any special occasion - is something every child should experience at least once in his or her life,” says FPU CEO and General Manager Britt Dye. “We are a blessed society in many ways, and if we can work together to help someone in our community, we want to do that.”

Both FPU and Walmart show support for the local community throughout the year by assisting when there’s a need and by participating in community events and fundraisers as they are able.

“FPU and Walmart have a common thread – we both depend on the support of our customers and community for our success,” says Dye. “We appreciate our customers and the community in which we live and work. Helping children in need is just one way we can give back to our community.”

“We appreciate Walmart for partnering with FPU again this year,” adds Dye. “Without their help and the support of Walmart’s Store Manager Travis Jean, this would not have been possible.”

The bicycles were awarded to one boy and one girl in the second and fourth grades at Ralph Askins, Blanche, Flintville, Highland Rim, South Lincoln and Unity schools and at Riverside Christian Academy. The bicycles were delivered to the schools last Wednesday by FPU employees; school faculty will distribute the bicycles to the children for Christmas.
