FPU’s Student Utility Board receives awards

The Fayetteville Public Utilities (FPU) Student Utility Board (SUB) recently gathered for their last 2016-2017 meeting to celebrate their completion of service as SUB members.

FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye recognized the young board members with an appreciation of service plaques and announced the winner of the utility’s $1,000 scholarship.

Appreciation awards were presented to Will Clark, Kate Parkes, Erin Wakefield, Jim Hammons, Anna Belle Bradley, Calley Raby, and Ben Robinson.

In addition to the appreciation award, Dye presented Calley Raby, daughter of Ryan Raby and Holly Sisk, the $1,000 FPU scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to Raby based on her application, points earned throughout the year as a Student Utility Board member and other qualifying criteria. Raby plans to enroll at Motlow State Community College this fall.

“We had an outstanding and energetic group of young people serving on our Student Utility Board this year,” says FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye. “Over the past 10 months, these students learned about the roles each utility department plays. They also gained first-hand knowledge about customer service, community partnership, employee teamwork and more.”

The year consists of students visiting a natural gas gate station, touring the water and wastewater treatment plants, touring an electric substation, touring telecom facilities and observing customer service in the administration and operations departments. The youth board also participates in and represents FPU in the annual Harvest of Hope Food Drive, annual Heart Walk, and assisting locals to head start students with needs during the winter.

“It has been a very successful year for our Student Utility Board,” Dye says. “We hope this youth program will continue to grow and educate our young customers about what Fayetteville Public Utilities is and how we work to provide safe and reliable utility services to our community.”
